The latest project for Lusardi Construction to build in its hometown is the new Alvin Dunn / La Mirada Academy. The project was commissioned by the San Marcos Unified School District to replace the existing Alvin Dunn School. The original Alvin Dunn School buildings were constructed in 1960 by Lusardi Construction. The design was to build a pair of two story buildings adjacent to the existing school to seamlessly transfer students from the old school to the new school. Demolition of the old school could then commence and the multipurpose building and playfields could be built. The Alvin Dunn / La Mirada Academy project consisted of the construction of (1) two-story classroom building, (1) two-story classroom and administration building, and (1) single story multipurpose building with a full service kitchen. The project entailed building a new one acre grass playfield accompanied by blacktop playground areas and play structures for student use. The total square footage of all three buildings is 120,000 with 51 classrooms, Library, Innovation Lab, Kiln room, Theatre, full service Kitchen, Band room, multipurpose Gymnasium, and Administration spaces. The school was constructed over (2) school years on the existing campus with zero class interruptions or interim campus being needed.
